  • Front End Web Development (html/css/javascript)
    • Front End Web Development encompasses the elements the end user interacts with on a webpage. Even elements that rely on the backend need some sort of front end development in order to make them interactable to front-end users.
    • For example, a form that sends an email from your server needs some input from the user. The form needs to be properly styled in order to be usable so your server can do the work it needs to.

    • In short, Front End Web Development makes your page look like your design, and behave for your users how you'd expect.

    • Front End Mobile Design is similar to Front End Web Design in that it encompasses every element the user interacts with. Also as with Front End Web Design, Front End Mobile Design makes your app look nice and behave smoothly.

    • Again, as with Front End Web Development, Front End Mobile Development makes your app look like your design, and behave how your users expect it to.

    • While Front End Development will make your website look attractive and make users want to interact with your page, without Back End Development, what your site can do is pretty limited.

    • For instance, a login form can be styled on the front end so it looks good, but in order for a user to actually login, backend systems and services such as databases need to be configured and developed and code needs to be written so the front end can receive data from the back end.
    • Your site can contain all sorts of useful information, but without someone updating the front end constantly, your information won't stay up to date. With a script running in the backend and storing data in a database, your site can remain up-to-date automatically!

    • Again, as in with Front End Mobile Development, your app might look nice and behave in cool, interactive ways, but without a back end, many apps simply won't fully function.

    • Without some sort of centralized location to store and retrieve data (such as a backend database) apps won't have any way of knowing what's going on.
For instance, if a dating app were created without a back end, you'd be the only one there. That's not a very good way to get a date!
    • Without a backend, rideshare apps wouldn't be able to actually dispatch a driver to your location as there wouldn't be a way for the system to communicate to the driver that a rider needs a ride - or to let the rider know that a driver is available.
